Ahmed Mohamed, a 14-year-old Texas boy, was arrested Monday for bringing a homemade clock to school. Mohamed is a budding engineer, spending his free time building new gadgets and devices. He recently designed and built a clock and brought the device to school to show his teachers, who he thought would be proud of him. However, the day did not go as planned, as his English teacher confiscated the device out of concern that it may have been a bomb, and he was brought before the school administration before being handcuffed and taken to a juvenile detention center by law enforcement. While many school officials and faculty thought the clock looked like a briefcase bomb, it turns out that it was, in fact, a clock.

The incident went viral, receiving attention from major tech moguls, such as Mark Zuckerberg, and politicians, such as Hillary Clinton. Oh, and Barack Obama invited Ahmed to the White House - and he told him to bring his clock. While the police chief declared that the reaction “would have been the same” regardless of the boy's religious background, others believe that Ahmed was targeted for being Muslim. With that, Obama saw it fit to address the situation by inviting the boy to his estate. "Cool clock, Ahmed. Want to bring it to the White House? We should inspire more kids like you to like science. It's what makes America great," tweeted Obama from his official account.

Such a reaction has received massive backlash, and among those who find fault in Obama's invitation is Bristol Palin. “This encourages more racial strife that is already going on with the ‘Black Lives Matter’ crowd and encourages victimhood," wrote Palin on her political blog. Palin argues that this was not an incident of racial profiling, but rather the authorities simply made a mistake in assuming that the device was an explosive. “Why put more people against them? Why egg it on,” she furthered. “Childish games like this from our president have divided our country, even more today than when he was elected.”
