    Marvin Zindler and Cragg Hines

I must admit I liked to watch Marvin Zindler on TV and I will miss his reports. Once I was a subject of one of his reports and I was not at that moment a big fan of his. He used some information given to him by someone else that was not true and he did not come and ask me for the correct information, instead he just ran with it and blasted me all over TV. Later the person who gave him the info told me that he was mistaken and he apologized to me for giving it to Marvin. Marvin did not. But a week or so later I ran into Marvin in an elevator and Marvin was smoking a cigar as I recall. That was against a new city law and it gave me great pleasure to point that out to Mr. Zindler and inform him that I could have him arrested if I wanted to do so. I decided not to be a jerk. He put the cigar out and never again used me in one of his broadcasts.

I did like what he did for poor folks and those that needed his help with the bureaucrats in our governments. He did a good job and Houston will miss Marvin.

Houston will also miss Cragg Hines at the Houston Chronicle. He has decided to retire. Over all these years Cragg was a progressive voice at the paper and at times the only voice that was saying things that needed to be said. You see I remember the Chron when it was very conservative and was the voice of the business community and the conservative political forces in Houston. Cragg was the writer that could take another view and keep his job at the same time. He was refreshing. Later he was a target for the right wing to yell about his observations. That made me feel much better. So, Cragg have a good time in retirement and let's hope that the Chron decides to get a new progressive writer.
