    West with Wilson, #2,2006

West with Wilson, 2006 #2 Pecos Texas. A nice town, where the first rodeo in the history of the world was conducted. It has a Federal Court, is the County seat, and even has a movie theater open on the weekends. But it also has a Walmart and therefore lot of the downtown shops are vacant. We had a long trip much of it in the rain. Not just gentle rain, I mean pouring down rain like being in a car wash. It slowed up down as we were just creeping along from Galveston to the other side of Houston. It had thunder and lightening and made me very nervous. So I wanted to ride in George’s lap for some of the trip. We paid from $2.89 to $3.03 for gasoline. We did see a sign for gas at $2.57, but that may have been an old sign. Speaking of signs we looked for political signs for anyone. But we did not see one sign along the 620 miles that we traveled. Nothing not even a bumper sticker. I wonder if that means that no one is interested in the upcoming election. We did see some more rain as we got to Fort Stockton and Pecos. They need rain in areas other then the Gulf coast. Grass is yellow, cows look like they need a meal. The Hill Country looks nice from a distance but up close you can see that the creeks are dry and the stockponds are going down fast. We had dinner at a Mexican café in Pecos. It was Saturday night and families were out for dinner. Many Hispanic families were eating at the café and everyone seemed to know once another. I wonder what would happen if some of them were told they had to go back to their native country if they are in the U.S. illegally. They do have a museum for Judge Roy Beam, but not Jim Beam. George tells me that is a great drink. Wilson
