The Gossips think that Chris Bell's approach to Kinky Freedman to get out of the Governor's race was suppose to be a private phone call that only Bell and Freedman would know about. But Kinky's campaign had a Dallas Morning News reporter traveling with them and Kinky must have spilled the beans or the reporter may have overheard the phone message. It was a good idea to try and get Kinky out of the race , but would have been better if it had not become public. That is the risk of a call like that from one candidate to the other.

The Gossips wonder if Kinky isn't now looking like that other independent candidate in 2000, Ralph Nader who caused Al Gore defeat. He can't win and the only thing he may accomplish is the election of Rick Perry, the Republican.

The Bell campaign is getting some help however,the Gossips hear that former President Bill Clinton has committed to campaign for Chris in upcoming Texas trip. That should get some good press and perhaps get more Democrats energized. Some polls show that Bell is getting only luke warm support from minority voters and Anglo Democrats and a visit by the chief Democrat should do wonders.

The New York Times and other papers are now starting to publish stories about the sexual preference of some of the key players in the Foley scandal. Kirk Fordham, Mr. Foley's onetime chief of staff who until last week was a top aide to Representative Thomas M. Reynolds, The NRCC chair, and Jeff Trandahl, formerly the clerk of the House of Representatives, who had oversight staffers and the page program are openingly gay and the Gossips read that neither tried to hide their homosexuality in DC. The question is what does this information do to the Christian right and their strong anti-gay stands. Will they start a witch hunt against gays who work for GOP members and the various Republican committees? Or will they follow their faith and love their neighbor like yourself?

Gays have been in the front lines for Democrats and there is a movement this week to make sure that gays of any political preference do not vote for Kinky Freedman and instead vote for Chris Bell. The Gossips think that this along with the help of national Democrats like Bill Clinton will give the Bell campaign some help at the polls..
