Fred Thompson will announce for the GOP nomination for President around the 5th of September the Gossips hear. He already has a very good organization in Texas headed by our Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson. Lots of GOP state House members have signed up with Thompson. The Gossips think that Thompson will soon be the leader in the GOP race. But perhaps some of his background may come back to harm him.
The Gossips don't buy the story that while he lobbied for a pro-choice group, he did not support their issue of keeping abortion legal. What? How can you lobby for a group if you do not support its efforts? I am sure that the National Family Planning and Reproductive Health Association, who Thompson lobbied for had several discussions about their goals before they hired him. What did he do, go around the Capitol and urge legislators to keep abortion legal while at the same time winking at them to let them know that he was just saying what he was paid to say? The Gossip find that hard to believe.
When the Gossip lobbied for Enron Corp, several times he asked not to be put on an issue which he could not personally support. And his wishes were observed. You just cannot be effective if you do not believe what you are telling folks about your client. Thompson should just say he changed his position on abortion. That is what Mitt Romney is saying.
