As reputed pundits and analysts continue to scoff at the Republican presidential primary race for the fear-mongering, often-bigoted, hateful rhetoric dominating the discussion amongst candidates, an integral member of the Obama Administration has now offered his own take on the situation at hand. Secretary of State John Kerry recently spoke on CBS’s Face the Nation, telling the American people that the Republican candidates for president are doing a tremendous disservice to the country, both domestically and internationally, calling the race “an embarrassment.”
Kerry explained that leaders of foreign powers are “shocked” by the anti-Muslim rhetoric that has been disseminated by Republican front-runners like Trump and Cruz. “They don’t know where it’s taking the United States of America,” he noted. “It upsets people’s sense of equilibrium about our steadiness, about our reliability, and to some degree I must say to you, some of the questions, the way they’re posed to me, it’s clear to me that what’s happening is an embarrassment to our country.”
Both Donald Trump and Ted Cruz have poor standing among Muslims around the world. Trump’s proposal to ban all Muslims from entering the nation has sparked an outrage that has only been amplified by Cruz’s recent plan to “patrol and secure” Muslim communities.
What do you think about Kerry’s comments on the Republican primary race? Do you agree that it has been an embarrassment?
