Does Trump need to pick this person to be his VP in order to win the general election?

As the Republican and Democratic nominations appear to be nearly secured by Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, respectively, talks over whom they will select as their vice presidents have circulated in the media. Speaking with Dana Perino last night, Bill O’Reilly said that he knows whom Trump MUST pick in order to have any real chance at winning the general election against Hillary in November.

“There is only one choice if he wants to win the White House, only one person,” O’Reilly said confidently. “That is the only choice — with all due respect — if Mr. Trump wants to be President. [Martinez] cuts across all the ethnic boundaries. She’s very bright. She is a Republican conservative.” This is particularly interesting, given that Martinez has come out in fierce opposition to Trump’s violent rhetoric on immigration policies.

According to the Washington Post, “she told the crowd of about 60 wealthy GOP backers that, as a Latina, she was offended by Trump’s language about immigrants. Noting her years working as a prosecutor on the Mexican border and now as a border-state governor, Martinez said Trump’s plan to build a wall and force Mexico to pay for it was unrealistic and irresponsible, according to multiple people in attendance.”

O’Reilly’s view that there is only ONE person that Trump could select to have a shot at the White House might be indicative of the business mogul’s meager chances at actually winning in November, but only time will tell at this point.

What do you think about O’Reilly’s comments? Is Martinez the only person Trump could pick?
