The Trump campaign has been mired by their candidate’s off-handed remarks toward and about women. Extending beyond his comments toward female reporters and media icons, Trump has taken his misogyny into the political arena, deciding that he would besmirch Hillary Clinton’s campaign with comments about her gender.
Yesterday morning, Trump seized an opportunity to attack the likely Democratic nominee. “The only thing she’s got is the woman card,” said Trump, implying that he would likely be able to defeat her in November.
Speaking at a press conference last night, Trump then attributed Hillary Clinton’s success in this election cycle to her gender. “She’s got nothing else going. And frankly, if Hillary Clinton were a man, I don’t think she’d get 5 percent of the vote.” While there is zero evidence that this is true at all, we can’t really expect much more from Donald Trump at this point.
He went on to say that female voters support him and do not favor Hillary for the White House. This, however, has been proven false, given the immense unfavorability ratings Trump has received among women.
The Clinton campaign will likely use this against Trump as a way to make him appear misogynistic and flippant, which could potentially swing moderate, undecided voters to their side.
What do you think about Trump claiming that Hillary only has the “woman card” and that she would not receive 5% of the vote if it were not for her gender?
